TREKKING IN THE KALASHA VALLEYS

 Day 1. Islamabad:

Meet in Islamabad transfer to the hotel or Guest House. Explore Islamabad Museum and Lok Virsa.

Day 2. Peshawar:

Tour Peshawar old city and Museum, See the page “Tour Peshawar” for details of the tour. Over night stay in Peshawar.

Day 3. Khyber Pass:

Drive to Khyber Pass, the famous pass in Asia for different invaders through centuries old. See the front page” Daily Trip to Khyber Pass” for details.

Day 4. Dir:

Drive to Dir, 5 to 6 hour drive from Peshawar. En route see Takhta-a- bhai, centuries old Budhist monastry and drive through Malakand Pass. Stay night in Dir.

Day 5. Chitral:

Morning drive by four-wheel jeeps to Chitral through over the scenic Lawari passes and continues drive to Chitral. meals and overnight hotel.

Day 6 Birir Valley:
Start trekking from Birir valley via Gumbak Pass; it is 3010m high.
Normally it is a six hour trek; view the range of Hindu Kush Mountains, Birir and Bumburate valley. Stay night in Bumburate valley.

Gumbak Pass

Day 7. Bumburet V alley:
Start trekking from Bumburate valley via Don Soun Pass, it is 3200m high. It takes five hours to get into the high pasture called Achual Gah. It is one of the beautiful high pastures where all the Kalash people have their cattle and land there. This high pasture is very famous for the Fairy Tales. People have many interesting stories about the Fairies, hunters, Sacrifice places and Shepherd’s lives. Camping for over night stay.

Day 8. Achua Gha Pasture and Bahuk Lake:
Trek from Achual Gah to Bahuk Lake, which takes full day to get there. It is the magic lake on the top of the mountain. This lake has very famous story in Kalasha legends. Good place for camping and stay overnight. Eat food with the Shepherds.. They provide cheese and chapattis. Camping for over night stay.

Day 9. Rumbor Valley:
Trek straight to Rumbour valley via Chumik Soun. Normally it takes six hours to get into one of the Kalasha village Balan Guru in Rumbour. Stay overnight in one of the Kalasha owned Guest Houses.

Day 10. Chitral:
Drive back to Chitral; explore handicraft shops, fort and go to see a Polo match in Chitral. (Sometimes polo match is played between Chitral police, scouts and locals) with great zeal and zest.

Day 11. Departure:

Option 1:

Drive back to Peshawar via Lowari Pass 10500f above the sea level, it takes five hours to Dir and from there it takes five to six hours to Peshawar.

Option 2:
Fly to Peshawar, which will take 45 minutes
